６月にNY Postが報じていた通り、米ロック歌手ブルース・スプリングスティーンがこの秋、ブロードウェーのWalter Kerr Theatreで８週間の限定公演を行うことが正式に発表された。
Springsteen on Broadway 『スプリングスティーン・オン・ブロードウェイ』というタイトルのワンマンショーは、10月3日から11月26日の夜、週に５回公演が行われ、10月12日にオープンの予定だ。

The Bossの愛称で親しまれているスプリングスティーンは、今回のショーについて「できる限りパーソナルで親密なショーをしたかった」と述べ、「この企画にブロードウェイを選んだのは、美しくて古い劇場があるからで、私が心に思い描いているものにぴったりだと感じたから」と話した。また、「実際、１つか２つの例外を除き、960席のWalter Kerr Theatreは私が過去40年間公演を行ってきた会場の中でも最も小さなもの」とし、このショーは、スプリングスティーン本人と「ギターと、ピアノと、言葉と音楽だけ」で、語りと歌とで構成された彼の「人生の軌跡や作品をざっとたどったもの」になるという。
“I wanted to do some shows that were as personal and as intimate as possible. I chose Broadway for this project because it has the beautiful old theaters which seemed like the right setting for what I have in mind. In fact, with one or two exceptions, the 960 seats of the Walter Kerr Theatre is probably the smallest venue I’ve played in the last 40 years. My show is just me, the guitar, the piano and the words and music. Some of the show is spoken, some of it is sung. It loosely follows the arc of my life and my work. All of it together is in pursuit of my constant goal to provide an entertaining evening and to communicate something of value.”
チケットは Ticketmasterの Verified Fan プログラムを通じて発売される。Verified Fan プログラムは、botを使って人気チケットを大量購入するチケット転売業者を排除し、実際に公演に参加するファンがチケットを買えるように考えられたプログラム。今回のSpringsteen on Broadwayのチケットを購入するためには8月27日午後10時（米東部時間）までに BruceSpringsteen.net に事前登録する必要があり、29日、資格を持つファンの中からランダムに選ばれた者にだけ事前登録した携帯電話宛に２枚まで購入可能なコードがテキストメッセージで送られ、30日に発売開始となるチケットの購入方法が知らされる仕組みだ。アメリカ国外の携帯電話ももちろん登録可能。但し、コードが送られてきたからといってチケット購入が保障されているわけではない。（詳細はこちら）
Walter Kerr Theatreはこの5月まで新作ミュージカルのAmélie『アメリ』を上演していた劇場。
