ニューヨーク時間の4月27日、ブロードウェイのリビングルームともよばれているサパークラブ Feinstein’s/54 Below にて、第62回ドラマ・デスク・アワード(2017 Drama Desk Awards)のノミネーションが発表された。
今年のノミネーション発表を担当したのはトニー賞受賞者のローラ・ベナンティと、ミュージカル『ハミルトン』に出演中のハビエル・ムニョスの二人。

ドラマ・デスク・アワードはブロードウェイ、オフ・ブロードウェイ、オフ・オフ。ブロードウェイで活躍するプロの舞台アーティスト達に贈られる賞だが、この賞が他の舞台関係賞と一線を画すのは、投票するのが賞の結果には全く利害関係のない舞台関係の評論家やジャーナリスト、エディター、出版者たちであること。したがってこの賞は、作品の興行に関わる者など、業界人が投票するトニー賞などとは異なり、ニューヨークで上演されているそれぞれの商業舞台がどれくらい支持されているかや、舞台についての博識や観劇体験に裏打ちされた評価が反映される。
今年のドラマ・デスク・アワードは、ベット・ミドラー主演でブロードウェイでリバイバルされた『ハロー、ドーリー!』(Hello, Dolly! )がリバイバルミュージカル作品賞と主演女優賞を含む10ノミネートでリードし、新作ミュージカルの Come From Away と Anastasia が9ノミネートとそれに続いた。
ドラマ・デスクのノミネーティング・コミッティーは、ブロードウェイ版のDear Evan Hansen と Significant Other はどちらも2015-2016年シーズンのオフ・ブロードウェイ上演時に審査対象となったため、今年は審査対象としないことに決定した。
Indecent と Sweat と Oslowere の3作品もブロードウェイにトランスファーされたが、オフ・ブロードウェイでのステージが審査対象となっている。
また、ブロードウェイ版の Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 は、脚本と楽曲がオフ・ブロードウェイのプロダクションから大きく変わっていないとコミッティーが判断したため、デザイン、ステージング、カンパニーの新メンバーが審査対象となった。
なお、ブロードウェイのリバイバル、『サンデー・イン・ザ・パーク・ウィズ・ジョージ』(Sunday in the Park with George)は、プロデューサーの希望により審査対象とされなかった。
第62回ドラマ・デスク・アワードは、6月4日午後8時から、ニューヨークのタウン・ホールにて開催される。ホストはマイケル・ユーリーが務める。
