9月17日、ロサンゼルスのMicrosoft Theatreにて、今年で第69回めとなる2017年のエミー賞（The 69th Primetime Emmy Awards）受賞者が発表され、CBSの深夜コメディ番組 The Late Show With Stephen Colbert のスティーヴン・コルベアの司会の元、計27 の賞が授与された。

エミー賞最高賞と見られているベストドラマシリーズ賞は、マーガレット・アトウッドの小説『侍女の物語』をテレビドラマ化したHuluのThe Handmaid’s Tale『ザ・ハンドメイズ・テイル（原題）』 。インターネットのストリーミング配信でトップを行くNetflixを抑えた受賞となった。
ベストコメディシリーズはHBOの Veep 『Veep／ヴィープ』が受賞した。
HBOはリミティッドシリーズの Big Little Lies 『ビッグ・リトル・ライズ ～セレブママたちの憂うつ～』も最優秀賞に輝き、出演したニコール・キッドマン、ローラ・ダーン、アレクサンダー・スカルスガルドがそれぞれ俳優賞を受賞、また、監督のジャン=マルク・ヴァリも監督賞を受賞した。
その一方で、NBCの Saturday Night Live 『サタデー・ナイト・ライブ』と並んで今年の最多ノミネートとなったHBOのドラマシリーズ Westworld 『ウエストワールド』や、それぞれ18ノミネートのNetflixの Stranger Things『ストレンジャー・シングス 未知の世界』とFXのFEUD: Bette and Joan『フュード：フュード：ベティ・アンド・ジョーン（原題）』は無冠に終わった。
番組別ではHuluのThe Handmaid’s TaleとHBOのBig Little Lies がそれぞれ５冠となり最多受賞番組となった。
プラットフォーム別ではHBOが強く、10冠。NBCが6冠でそれに続いた（先に発表されたクリエイティヴ・エミー賞の受賞数を除く）。
