Kevin Spacey at 2017 TONY AWARDS
6月11日、ニューヨークの Radio City Music Hall にて第71回トニー賞（2017 TONY Awards）の授賞式が開催された。
今年のホストは俳優のケヴィン・スペイシー。スペイシーがホストの第一候補ではなかったことは周知の事実で、オープニングナンバーはそれをジョークにし、トニー賞の候補になった作品からミュージックナンバーを借りつつ、スペイシーが素晴らしいホストになるにはどうすれば良いか苦悶するという趣向だ。

トニー賞で最も注目される新作ミュージカルの作品賞であるベスト ミュージカル賞は、高校生の自殺や、寂しさ、嘘、SNSでの人気の影を描いた Dear Evan Hansen が受賞した。演劇作品賞は、1993年にイスラエルとパレスチナ解放機構（PLO）の間で同意されたいわゆるオスロ合意の知られざるバックストーリーを描いたドラマ Oslo が受賞。ミュージカルリバイバル賞は『ハロー・ドーリー！』（ Hello, Dolly! ）、演劇リバイバル作品賞はオーガスト・ウィルソンの Jitney が受賞した。
またミュージカル主演男優賞は「ディア・エヴァン・ハンセン」のベン・プラットが、ミュージカル主演女優賞は『ハロー・ドーリー！』のベット・ミドラーが受賞し、演劇主演男優賞をPresent Laughter のケヴィン・クライン、演劇主演女優賞には『人形の家 パート2』（ A Doll’s House, Part 2 ）のローリー・メトカーフが輝いた。
最多受賞となったのは Dear Evan Hansen で、作品賞の他にベン・プラットが主演男優賞を、レイチェル・ベイ・ジョーンズの助演女優賞を、映画『ラ・ラ・ランド』（La La Land）の音楽チーム、ベンジ・パセクとジャスティン・ポールがオリジナル楽曲賞を受賞し、脚本賞、オーケストレーション賞を含む６部門を冠した。
